On July 13, 2001 the Air Force officially closed McClellan Air Force Base after 65 years of operation. The former base began its conversion from an active military base to a vital business park. Facilities on the former base, such as the Radar Facility pictured here in 1992, are being utilized by businesses like the Wildlife Care Association animal rehabilitation center. The former McClellan AFB is now known as McClellan Park, a thriving business park and residential community, with more than 15,000 people on the base daily. The Radar facility on the former base is currently being used by the Wildlife Care Association as a rehabilitation center for more than 6,000 orphaned and injured animals each year spanning four counties, including where former McClellan AFB resides.
