With the establishment of the U.S. Air Force (USAF) in September 1947, Bergstrom Army Airfield was changed to Bergstrom AFB in June 1948. For over 50 years, the Army Air Command, Strategic Air Command, and Tactical Air Command resided at the Bergstrom AFB during various periods. The 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing was most recently stationed at the Base, their primary mission was to maintain an air reconnaissance force and conduct advanced training (USACE, 2004a). In 1993, Bergstrom AFB was closed through the BRAC program and is now designated as ABIA.
