The 1996 National Defense Authorization Act established the Military Housing Privatization Initiative, which allowed the Air Force to privatize family housing on all domestic Air Force installations.
Today, 92.7 percent of domestic base housing is privatized, with the remaining inventory on its way. The Housing Branch has primary responsibility for closing transactions for remaining projects, overseeing construction for projects already closed and helping installations manage other day-to-day oversight activities.
The branch is made up of two sections with the following responsibilities:
Housing Privatization Execution - Design and construction oversight, operational execution, management review committees and annual site visits
Housing Privatization Operations - Housing operations support, technical reach-back, management review committees, annual site visits, community programs, privatization training and continuing education and training.
