Air Force announces annual Thomas D. White Environmental Awards Published Jan. 29, 2013 By Chad Starr AFCEC Public Affairs JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas -- Air Force officials recently announced the winners of the annual Thomas D. White Environmental Awards. The awards recognize Air Force bases conducting the best or most improved environmental programs in various categories, and the teams and individuals that contribute the most to Air Force environmental efforts each year. In releasing the names of this year's winners, Lt.. Gen. Judith A. Fedder, Air Force Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, Installations and Mission Support, said in today's competitive, high-quality Air Force, winning the award is a major milestone and an outstanding accomplishment. This year's winners by category were: Environmental Quality Award, Industrial Installation Category 78th CES/CEAN, Robins AFB, Ga. (Air Force Material Command) Environmental Quality Award, Overseas Installation Category 52nd CES/CEAN, Spangdahlem AB, Germany (U.S. Air Forces in Europe) Environmental Quality Award, Air Reserve Component 434th MSG/CEV, Grissom AFB, Ind. (Air Force Reserve) Environmental Restoration Award, Installation Category 92nd CES/CEAN, Fairchild AFB, Wash. (Air Mobility Command) Sustainability Award, Non-Industrial Installation Category 673rd CES/CEA, Joint Base Elmendorf - Richardson, Alaska (Pacific Air Forces) Natural Resources Conservation Award, Large Installation Category 673rd CES/CEAN, Joint Base Elmendorf - Richardson, Alaska (PACAF) Cultural Resources Management Award, Installation Category 99th CES/CEAN, Nellis AFB, Nev. (Air Combat Command) Sustainability Award, Individual/Team Excellence 61st CELS/CEAN, Los Angeles AFB, Calif. (Air Force Space Command) Cultural Resources Management Award for Individual/Team Excellence 99th CES/CEAN, Nellis AFB, Nev. (ACC) National Environmental Policy Act Award for Team Excellence 11th CES/CEAN, Andrews AFB, Washington D.C. (Air Force District of Washington) The environmental awards recognize and promote excellence in Air Force environmental programs. The awards are named in honor of Gen. Thomas D. White, the Air Force Chief of Staff from 1957 - 1961, who charted the course for Air Force environmental programs. The Air Force Civil Engineer Center's Environmental Center of Excellence was responsible for judging the awards and selecting the winners from 137 nominations.
