Ceremony welcomes home new residents

In celebration of the completion and transfer of the first 10 units of the $14 million Whole House Renovation Project at RAF Alconbury, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held April 13 to welcome the first family to their new home .

Representatives from RAF Alconbury, Defence Estates, the Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment, Mansell PLC and the 48th Civil Engineering Squadron were present at the ceremony.

Col. Amy Hammond, Alconbury's 423rd Air Base Group commander, and Gareth Roberts, project manager for Mansell PLC, welcomed new residents Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael Keogh from the Joint Analysis Center, RAF Molesworth, and his family.

Colonel Hammond noted the excellent quality of the houses and their timely execution which was much appreciated. She also thanked the team that made the execution of this project a seamless one, consisting primarily of Mansell PLC, AFCEE's Capital Investment Management Division, Defence Infrastructure Organization (formally Defence Estates), the 423rd CES and the base housing office.

Flowers were presented to the Keogh family by William Young from Mansell PLC. Colonel Hammond cut the ribbon and presented the keys to the Keogh family.

The project involves renovation of a total of 61 housing units, with construction beginning in March 2010. The project is currently scheduled for completion by Aug. 15, 2011.
