AFCEC leads Air Force participation in National Fire Prevention Week

TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. --  The fire emergency services division at the Air Force Civil Engineer Center is leading the Air Force for National Fire Prevention Week Oct. 4-10, a national event hosted by the National Fire Protection Association.

This year's National Fire Prevention Week theme is "hear the beep where you sleep," a call to have a working smoke alarm in every room in the house.

"People should be fire safe throughout the year, but Fire Prevention Week specifically gives us a time to focus on it," said Air Force Fire Chief James Podolske. "We do a lot of activities with the kids to build safety awareness in the next generation."

National Fire Prevention Week is an opportunity for installation fire departments to put Airmen's focus on fire safety.

By participating, AFCEC personnel believe they will achieve a safer Air Force.

"At AFCEC, our goal is to directly support base level fire departments during Fire Prevention Week however we can," said Master Sgt. Niels Roorda, fire emergency services program manager at AFCEC. "It's an opportunity for the departments to showcase and educate the community they serve by sharing life-saving information. Our ultimate goal is to always ensure that our customers feel safe. We achieve this through proactive interaction every day, but Fire Prevention Week is a great avenue for highlighting this even more so."
