BAA seeks sustainable solutions for environmental restoration, compliance Published Feb. 10, 2014 By Jennifer Schneider Air Force Civil Engineer Center Public Affairs JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas -- The Air Force Civil Engineer Center released a broad agency announcement Feb. 5, seeking proposals that demonstrate innovative and cost-effective technologies and methodologies related to environmental restoration and compliance concerns across the Air Force. The BAA was developed by the government as a way to further develop and validate innovative environmental technologies by providing an opportunity to apply potential solutions in the field. "Successful implementation and completion of the projects can result in a mutually beneficial arrangement, with the organization or contractor receiving additional field testing of their proposed solution, and the Air Force receiving assistance in achieving its environmental goals," said Adria Bodour, AFCEC BAA program manager. The current BAA is specifically looking for research projects related to: · Multiple treatment technologies for soil and groundwater cleanup related to perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFASs, resulting from the use and disposal of aqueous film forming foam, or AFFF. · Processes for assessing PFAS mass balance resulting from AFFF-impacted areas, particularly in situations where other contaminants are being treated. · Demonstration and validation of a patent-pending, patented or a commercially available real-time field sensor for PFASs, particularly for groundwater. · Methods to process water and sludge removed from oil water separator units. · Proactive water sensor technologies to comply with the Safe Drinking Water Act. · Equipment and methodologies for standardized monitoring of ignition internal combustion engines to meet new and revised regulations. · Identification of the principles governing the chemical fate and transport of jet fuel in air, water and soil. Companies, academic and non-profit institutions, and government agencies across the United States are encouraged to participate.
