AFCEC launches first strategic plan Published Sept. 5, 2013 By Leah Suttle AFCEC Public Affairs JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas -- "Battle Ready ... Built Right" is not just a motto; it describes how AFCEC will support civil engineers, installations and the warfighter. It's also the theme and focus of AFCEC's first strategic plan, which spells out the agency's mission, vision, goals and capabilities for all stakeholders. Director Joe Sciabica approved a draft of the plan Aug. 1. "'Battle Ready' is our link to the warfighter," Sciabica said. "Everything we do is to support the men and women around the world accomplishing the Air Force mission. 'Built Right' is a standard not only for our buildings and infrastructure, but also for the entire CE enterprise." The plan lays out three core goals to provide enterprise-wide solutions to deliver products, services and capabilities to installations and the warfighter; building enduring civil engineering competencies; and taking care of the civil engineering community. "We were battle ready when we stood AFCEC up, now we must line up to our strategic goals to be built right for the future," Sciabica said. These goals enable AFCEC's mission - to provide CE services and enterprise lifecycle leadership to Air Force installations that enable the warfighter; and its vision - to lead the way in delivering CE enterprise solutions. The Air Force needs a motivated, well-trained engineer team that takes pride in its work. "AFCEC is building that team by focusing on developing leaders, encouraging personal growth, and recognizing successes and achievements," he said. With the strategic plan complete, AFCEC leadership is now turning its attention to developing objectives that support the goals. In the coming weeks, AFCEC is rolling out the plan to stakeholders, including employees and civil engineers at all levels with a campaign to build awareness for the plan and its goals. Directorate leads will work with AFCEC's transformation team to outline objectives and build out the plan's appendices, Sciabica said. "The big push with the rollout campaign is awareness - awareness about our strategy and awareness about where we're going," he said. Our "Battle Ready ... Built Right" focus is core to AFCEC's delivery of cross-functional products and services that integrate infrastructure planning, improve analysis and asset visibility, and prioritize built and natural infrastructure requirements, he said.
