Let it Rain! ADR wet-weather crater repair test Published Aug. 20, 2013 By Air Force Civil Engineer Center Public Affairs TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Recently airfield damage repair experts at the Air Force Civil Engineer Center's Det. 1, at Tyndall AFB, Fla., conducted a wet-weather crater repair test here to study the effects and mitigation methods for placing asphalt crater repair caps in the rain. During the test, three craters were repaired using a combination of materials including rapid-setting flowable fill and hot-mix asphalt while an overhead sprinkler system simulated the required three-eighths of an inch of rain per hour. AFCEC's Readiness Directorate will use findings from tests like these to refine ADR tactics, techniques and procedures. View the photo slideshow here.
