  • Wildland Fire pros battle fire season despite COVID-19

    The Air Force Civil Engineer Center’s Wildland Fire Branch hasn’t let the COVID-19 pandemic stop it from protecting Airmen and their families as well as wildlife during this year’s severe fire season. Along with the pandemic, some installations have had to cope with the threat of wildfires damaging training areas and shutting down bombing ranges. In an effort to continue its mission, the Wildland Fire program reprioritized its goals for the year and enacted COVID-19 safety protocols for its firefighters to follow.
  • AFCEC achieves major milestone, transfers parcel of former base for public airport use

    The Air Force Civil Engineer Center reached another major milestone with the transfer of 923 acres from former McClellan Air Force Base, California, for public airport use. From sunup to sundown fire-fighting aircraft of all sizes lift off from McClellan. These large aircraft, one after another, make the giant loop from Sacramento to the North Bay.
  • Beale partners with local agencies, California Fire Protection to fight wildfires

    Firefighters from the 9th Civil Engineer Squadron here are partnering with state and local fire departments to fight fires in Butte, Yuba, and Nevada counties. The 9th CES sent a four-man team as a part of the initial response to work with local civil authorities to combat the fires on Oct. 9. The team has been assisting with battling the blazes throughout the week.
