The Air Force Civil Engineer Center director announced the unit's mission and vision statements March 1.

Joe Sciabica said the statements achieve another milestone in the early existence of AFCEC, which activated Oct. 1, 2012.

"We've been conducting strategic planning sessions for a few months, with the goal to first announce these statements that define what we do for the Air Force - our mission statement - and what we aspire to be - our vision," he said. "Next, as we complete our strategic plan, we'll focus on finalizing organizational goals and how we will accomplish and measure them."

The statements are:

MISSION
Provide Civil Engineering services and enterprise lifecycle leadership to Air Force installations that enable the warfighter.

VISION
Lead the way in delivering Civil Engineering enterprise solutions.

Common themes in both statements are leadership and enterprise-wide execution.

"We want to be the best at what we do - the go-to source for CE solutions," Sciabica said. "Providing leadership in the execution of our daily mission helps us move toward our vision of being the true leader in our field."

He said the word "enterprise" symbolizes AFCEC's global role.

"When we stood up AFCEC by merging three field operating agencies with key people at installations and major commands, we transitioned from 'service provider' to 'enterprise leader,'" Sciabica said. "The 'enterprise' represents the entire Air Force physical plant, as well as areas where we do work for others, like construction in Afghanistan or for federal agencies."

The strategic planning process resumes in mid-March to further develop the AFCEC plan that will chart the unit's course for the future.

"The strategic planning and the iNode teams are delivering key foundational work that sets AFCEC up for long-term success," Sciabica said. "We want to ensure we get it right - our organizational culture, structure, mission alignment, and manning - so that we can achieve full operating capability before Oct. 1, 2014, knowing we have the correct mix of capabilities and resources to posture us for enduring mission accomplishment."
