The Air Force is requesting private industry input on a possible commercial real estate development project at Patrick Air Force Base's Malabar Annex in Palm Bay, Fla. The annex is managed by officials at Patrick.

Under the Enhanced Use Lease Program, the Air Force Civil Engineer Center issued a Request for Information on Feb. 5 asking for information from interested parties regarding the potential lease of about 465 acres of non-excess land located on the annex for private commercial use.

Potential concepts could include office space, sports and recreational facilities, solar energy, retail use, and warehouse or distribution facilities. Other uses may also be possible provided they are compatible with surrounding land uses and allowed by applicable land use and development laws.

The Air Force Civil Engineer Center's Installations Center of Excellence acquires, manages and disposes of all Air Force-controlled real property worldwide. The Air Force EUL program authorizes the Air Force to lease real property for public use that is not currently needed but is not considered "excess" property available for sale or other permanent disposal. The proposed land is part of a larger 640-acre tract surrounded by residential housing. The Air Force will retain use of about 150 acres for conducting existing Air Force missions.
