Members of the Air Force geospatial enterprise and civil engineers met with Office of the Secretary of Defense Installation Geospatial Information and Services Governance Group, or IGG, program managers from OSD, representatives of the geospatial programs from all branches of service and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, recently during a first of its kind three-day tour of the national capital region.

"In taking advantage of that two hour meeting, we also went around to meet with every other component just to get to know these people and begin the dialogue to build relationships and partnerships and to find out what they are doing right now to overcome some of the same obstacles and see what they have done in the past," said Scott Ensign, Air Force GeoBase program manager at the Air Force Civil Engineer Center.

The collaborative spirit and willingness to share information and asset management resources between the sister services bolstered the evolving Air Force GeoBase program, which focuses on formation dominance to enable proper Air Force application of installation and environmental resources and operational force, Ensign said.

As AFCEC's first opportunity to meet with all of the geospatial programs since the hand off of the IGG program lead 12 months ago, this three-day tour proved valuable to the planning process to improve the Air Force GeoBase program by providing new perspectives on the capabilities of the technology.

"The Air Force has done great things over the last 15 years, but we have much more to do," Ensign said. "We are extremely thankful for the great work accomplished and shared by the other services and their support through the IGG process.  Now it's our turn to take what's been done by all and use it to strengthen the Air Force program."
