Every November, our nation takes a collective pause to remember the sacrifices made by military members across the globe for the sake of our freedom. Today, I would like to also stop and thank each of you for the numerous and awe-inspiring sacrifices you've made or are making for our country and for your fellow service members.

Over the course of the last two and a half decades, I've been proud and honored to serve with our civil engineers who have deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and other numerous missions around the world. Airmen engineers, with specialties that range from emergency management to expeditionary operations to construction to explosive ordnance disposal, all play a critical part in ensuring mission success.

While we wrap up our mission in Afghanistan, I look forward to seeing many of our Airmen returning home.

November is more than a time of remembrance and appreciation for our veterans. It's also the month the president of the United States designated as Military Family Appreciation Month. While Airmen deploy across the globe, their families wait at home, anxiously anticipating their safe return. And when our service members are home, their families support them and follow them from place to place, giving up their own wants and needs for not only the member in uniform, but also for the needs of the nation.

So as we celebrate this year's Veterans Day, I ask you to take time today not only to remember the sacrifices of those who built the legacy on which we stand, those of our fellow Airmen, Soldiers, Sailors and Marines, but also the sacrifices all of our families make for us and the constant support they so selflessly provide.

And finally, thank you for your leadership, service and sacrifice on behalf of our nation.  It is great to be on your team!
