JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- This month marks the one-year anniversary of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson's landfill gas facility. JBER uses gas from its neighbor, the City of Anchorage landfill, to generate 30 percent of the base's required electrical needs. Now the Air Force Civil Engineer Center's Energy Directorate plans to launch a study of more than 600 recorded Air Force landfills to search for similar opportunities. (U.S. Air Force photo)
