Static fire test for Sentinel solid rocket motor
The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center conducted its first full-scale static test fire of the LGM-35A Sentinel stage-one solid rocket motor at the Northrop Grumman test facility in Promontory, Utah, March 2, 2023. The Air Force plans to replace the fielded Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile with the next-generation Sentinel system currently in development. AFFF SUNDOWN
The Air Force is scheduled to lockout/tagout Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) tanks and systems like the one pictured here from hangar fire suppression systems by early 2023. The lockout/tagout and accompanying disposal of the AFFF tanks is in accordance with a 2020 National Defense Authorization Act provision requiring DoD to phase out AFFF at all military installations by Oct. 1, 2024. The Air Force is expecting to meet the 2020 NDAA requirement nearly 20 months early. (Courtesy photo)
