Edwards EUL Solar Array Project
Nearly five years of collaboration between the Air Force, civic stakeholders and private industry came to fruition Feb. 2 with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony for a 2,600-acre solar enhanced use lease project at Edwards Air Force Base, California. The Edwards array is the fifth and largest solar EUL project in the Air Force. The others at Luke AFB, Arizona; Eglin AFB, Florida; and two at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, complete the existing portfolio. Edwards EUL Solar Array Project
The Air Force Civil Engineer Center, a primary subordinate unit of the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center, worked with Edwards Air Force to solicit lease proposals for an underutilized parcel of land on the northwest corner of the base. Terra-Gen LLC, a renewable energy company, signed a 35-year lease agreement in November 2018 to construct a solar array at Edwards. Former Kelly AFB wins national EPA excellence award in site reuse
The former Kelly AFB restoration project team is named one of the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2022 National Federal Facility Excellence in Site Reuse Award winners. Now designated Port San Antonio, the award recognizes the hard work and tremendous cooperation among the Air Force Civil Engineer Center BRAC program, EPA and state and local redevelopment agencies. Motorcycle Safety
A group of riders prepare for a ride following a motorcycle safety course at Eglin Air Force Base, FL. Seven Airmen have lost their lives to motorcycle mishaps this fiscal year, including four in the past three weeks, according to the Air Force Safety Center. According to the National Safety Council, colder weather during the fall/winter months typically results in fewer motorcyclists on the road and a corresponding drop in motorcycle mishaps and fatalities, making this negative trend all the more alarming.

374th CES and U.S. Marines complete annual Aircraft Arresting System certification
Airmen from the 374th Civil Engineer Squadron power production shop ensure the flightline Aircraft Arresting System (AAS) is set up properly for an annual certification test at Yokota Air Base, Japan, Jan. 6, 2023. The certification guaranteed proper function of the AAS when the aircraft cannot perform a standard landing during a real world emergency. The AAS is a cable designed to catch the arresting hooks attached to the tail of an aircraft, which creates a safe deceleration when landing in short distances. 374th CES and U.S. Marines complete annual Aircraft Arresting System certification
Senior Airman Jacob Handler, 374th Civil Engineer Squadron power production journeyman, gives hand signals to Aircraft Arresting System (AAS) operators after the completion of an annual certification test at Yokota Air Base, Japan, Jan 6, 2023. An AAS can save lives in cases where a pilot is unable to stop their aircraft during landing.
