Director of Staff

Mission
The director of staff manages and oversees mission support activities for the Air Force Civil Engineer Center, a field operating agency of the Air Force Civil Engineer. These activities include the execution of the public affairs, human resources management, protocol, civil engineering history, workflow, and strategic engagement programs. The director of staff is also responsible for strategic planning and initiatives, facility management, safety, emergency management, and the director's inspection program.

Organization
The Director of Staff is led by a colonel, who reports to the AFCEC director. The director of staff office has three divisions overseeing public affairs, human resources, and mission support.

Public Affairs Division
The Public Affairs Division manages AFCEC's internal information, media relations, civic outreach, visual information and security and policy review programs. The division coordinates and clears public release of information and provides public affairs planning, guidance and execution for AFCEC's offices and directorates to communicate timely, accurate and useful information to the Department of Defense, Air Force, elected officials, and other key domestic and international audiences.

Human Resources Division
The Human Resources Division provides support to AFCEC for personnel (military and civilian), manpower, center training, and personal and industrial security. The division has direct liaison on all military and civilian personnel matters with the force support squadrons at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas; Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla.; and Travis AFB, Calif.

Mission Support Division
The Mission Support Division delivers core expertise for AFCEC in a wide range of programs, including protocol, director's inspection program and the Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century program. The division relies on mission support personnel located at headquarters Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland and Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., as well as people in each of the AFCEC directorates. The mission support division manages all of AFCEC's workflow, serving as a centralized hub for external and internal tasks and requests flowing to and from AFCEC's headquarters and directorates. The division is also responsible for strategic planning and for emergency management and facility management, including the Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health program and vehicles at all AFCEC locations. The historian and unit deployment managers also work from within the division.
