Air Force and NMED to host public information Published March 19, 2018 By Kirtland Public Affairs Kirtland Air Force Base Public Affairs KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The Air Force and the New Mexico Environment Department will co-host a public information meeting Thursday, Mar. 22, at 6 p.m., at the African American Performing Arts Center, to provide an update about the Kirtland Bulk Fuels Facility leak cleanup activities. Additionally, an open house will be held at the groundwater treatment system facility on Saturday, Mar. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. From 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Mar. 22, interested community members are invited to participate in a poster session. The main meeting presentation runs from 6 to 8 p.m. and will include a project status update and overview of the NMED 2018 Strategic Plan, as well as a question and answer period. Representatives from the Air Force, NMED, the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority and the City of Albuquerque will be available at the public meeting. The Mar. 24 open house at the groundwater treatment system facility is an opportunity to learn about the work being done to remove groundwater contamination caused by a historical leak at the old base bulk fuels facility. Interested community members will be able to access the facility from the Ridgecrest Gate. Air Force and NMED environmental experts will be available at the facility to explain clean-up activities and answer questions.
